What is BlueCard?

BlueCard is a national program from Blue Cross Blue Shield that allows members of one local BCBS plan to access in-network care and providers in other states. If you’re enrolled in BlueCard, you can see BlueCard clients in any state where you’re actively licensed.

Confirming BlueCard Plans

While many BCBS plans participate in BlueCard, not every BCBS plan does. If you'd like to verify whether you’re in network for a specific client’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, check your Insurance tab. All participating BlueCard plans that you accept will be listed here.

 

BlueCard Rates

On the Rates page, only one BlueCard plan will be shown. This rate applies to all BlueCard plans in all states you are licensed.

FAQs

  1. What is BlueCard? BlueCard is a national Blue Cross Blue Shield program that allows members of one local BCBS plan to access healthcare services and in-network providers in other states or areas.
  2. What does this mean for me? It means you can accept more insurance plans through BlueCard and see BlueCard clients across state lines anywhere you’re actively licensed.
  3. Can I opt out of this BlueCard access? No. BlueCard access is tied to your BlueCard enrollment and is not an optional setting.
  4. What are my rates for BlueCard clients? Your rate is the same for all BlueCard plans in any state where you’re actively licensed. You can review this on your Rates page.
  5. Does every Blue Cross Blue Shield plan use BlueCard? Not every BCBS plan participates in BlueCard, but only a small number do not.
